A milestone on boundary demarcation between Malaysia - Indonesia has been reached today with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Demarcation and Survey of the International Boundary between Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak) and Indonesia (Kalimantan Utara & Kalimantan Barat).

The MOU was signed by Datuk Zurinah Pawanteh, Secretary General, Ministry of Water, Land and Natural Resources (KATS) Malaysia and Dr. Hadi Prabowo MM, Secretary General, Ministry of Home Affairs Republic of Indonesia. YB Dato’ Dr. Xavier Jayakumar, KATS Minister and Prof. Drs. H. Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Minister of Home Affairs Republic of Indonesia, witnessed the signing ceremony.

The MoU is deemed as a special milestone in the bilateral relation between the two countries in finding closure to long overdue Outstanding Boundary Problems (OBPs) namely the international land boundary near the vicinity of Simantipal River in Pensiangan district/Lumbis Ogong district and the sub-sector in Sipitang/Sebakung district.

Both segments are located in Sabah/Kalimantan Utara that have remained unresolved since 1978 and 1989 respectively.
